DA's Office Year In Review
December 30, 2011The Erie County District Attorney’s Office had a busy and successful year for criminal prosecutions. Most notably maybe the fact that of the 2,991 criminal cases that were listed for trials in the Court of Common Pleas, 2,867 were resolved before actual trial. This fact indicates that state and local police officers and departments did a very good job investigating reported incidents and gathering the evidence need to convict the defendant.

Robert Duval Pleads Guilty To Third Degree Murder
December 29, 2011Robert Duval pleaded guilty to third degree murder in Erie County Court. He stabbed his roommate, John Mares to death in June of 2011 in an apartment at 319 W. 17th street in Erie.

Councilman Beeman Loses Appeal Of Driving Under Suspension Charges
December 23, 2011Erie County Councilman Ebert Beeman lost his appeal on his seventh and eighth convictions for driving while his license was suspended. Beeman managed to avoid prison as he racked up convictions for driving under a suspended driver's license. Assistant District Attorney Brandon Bingle ended Beeman's freedom with the convictions in Judge Stephanie Domitrovich's court on December 22, 2011.

Erie County Detectives And Lawrence Park Police Arrest Man for Murder of Toddler
December 15, 2011Erie County Detectives and the Lawrence Park Township Police Department arrested James Steven Knight for the homicide of 19 month old Emmanuel Williams.
Knight is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

November 22, 2011A jury looked at the evidence and found Eugene Metzger, 54, of Erie, guilty as charged of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, aggravated assault while DUI, DUI, involuntary manslaughter, and recklessly endangering other persons.

Emmett Briggs Found Guilty On All Counts
November 17, 2011Emmett Briggs told police that his 3-month-old son was injured when the man tripped, and the baby fell down stairs. The story didn't hold up during the trial.

Driver Sentenced for Fatal Hit and Run

District Attorney's Office and Erie Bureau of Police are searching for 19-year-old accused of wounding four people at the Metropolitian Dance Club. An arrest warrant has been issued for Shannon L. Jones, of the 900 block of East 11th Street, on charges including criminal attempt at homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering.
Jones is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information on Jones' whereabouts is asked to call Erie police Detective Sgt. Dominic DiLullo at 870-1156, Detective Sgt. Earl Matson at 870-1504 or the Erie police officer in charge at 870-1120.

Erie County DA Has Successful July Trial Term
July 28, 2011The Assistant District Attorneys of the Erie County District Attorney's Office took twenty-eight cases to trial during the July 2011 trial term before Common Pleas Judges DiSantis, Connelly, and Garhart.
Eighteen trials resultsd in guilty verdicts while three were found not guilty. Two cases were dismissed, two were Nolle Pros, one was continued, one was a bench warrant, and one was a hung jury.
