Reason for Nomination: Mike is a caring and compassionate officer/detective. He currently is working out of the CAC which is the Children Advocacy Center. He deals daily with countless acts of crime towards children. Its something not every officer wants to have to deal with, but he's great at what he does. The following information has been submitted from the Erie Alert Nomination Form:

Nominated Officer: Sgt. Robert F. Burns II
District: Edinboro University
Nominated By: rburns4@windstream.net
Reason for Nomination: We would like to nominate Sergeant Robert Burns, from Edinboro University Police Department for Officer of the month for Erie County. Robert has been in law enforcement for 19 years. He maintained the position of Sergeant/ Field Deputy Officer for the Warren County Sheriff's Office for 12 years. For the last 7 years he has been a Police Officer/ Sergeant for the Edinboro University Police Department. It is evident that he loves his job and has always retained a positive attitude. His optimism is contagious with the other officers and fellow coworkers. He strives to do all that he can to help Edinboro University stay safe and as crime free as possible. He is extremely generous and caring with each student he comes into contact with, and does his best to go above and beyond the expectations asked of him. His love for law enforcement and his natural ability to understand people is what makes him such an extraordinary officer, as well as person. He has become a well known police officer at the University because he makes an effort to get to know as many students, faculty and staff members as possible. rn His attitude towards Edinboro University Police has always been not what they can do for him, but what he can do to for the department itself. As a result of becoming an officer at Edinboro University police department, he has been promoted over time to a Corporal Officer, and currently holds the position of Sergeant. He has also single handedly created The First Three Minutes program, which educates the general public on how to react to an active shooter situation. Prior to his arrival at Edinboro University, he worked for the Warren County Sheriff's Department in Warren, PA. He began his career there as a Corrections Officer for the Warren County Jail, and later became Sergeant of that position. In addition he also maintained the position of a 911 Operator and a Deputy Sheriff Officer. rnDuring the time he resided at the sheriff’s department, he made sure he got as much as he could out of his experience there. He held the title of Senior Crisis and Hostage Negotiator, a member of the High Risk Tactical Team, member of the Drug Task Force, Commander of the Rescue and Recovery Dive team, and he was the officer in charge of the Cops in Shops Program. While he has had numerous types of training for each of these, it would not be as fulfilling to him if he did not enjoy being an active member of law enforcement as much as he does. If he won the chance to add Officer of the Month to his list of acquired titles, he would most likely be surprised, but others would not. He is not only well known for his accomplishments but for his charismatic and fair personality on and off duty. He does his best to remain as unbiased as possible in each situation he is confronted with, and makes sure he treats everyone with respect at all times. He has made an impact on the lives of many, and deserves to win Officer of the Month for countless reasons. Not only should it be for his many years of experience and accomplishments in this field, but more importantly should it be for his selflessness, generosity, compassion, and fairness to others on and off the job. rnrnrnrnThe Burns FamilyrnrnCourtney Burns, Daughter, Rochelle Burns, Wife and Casey Burns, Sonrnrn814-763-5180rnrn
