Erie's latest murder investigation is now underway after a shooting late Wednesday night on East 25th Street. One man was shot in the chest. He was taken to the hospital and died, there. Another man--who was also shot at the scene-remains hospitalized. The gunfire went off around 10:30 Wednesday night, at 702 East 25th. The house also appeared to get shot at, as well. There were numerous gun shells found around the house.

Erie Police say a large group of people gathered at the scene, following the shooting, so Millcreek officers were called to assist with crowd control. So far no arrests have been made in the shooting. WICU TV-12.

The shooting happened at about 1:40 a.m. when officers on patrol heard gunshots south of West 18th and Sassafras streets, police said this morning. Officers went to investigate and saw a car stopped on Sassafras Street at West 22nd Street that then drove off, Erie police Lt. Kirk Werner said.

A man who was in the middle of the street then tried to run but fell down, Werner said. The man, identified by police as Marco Davidson, no age or address available, had been shot in the right leg but told police he did not know who shot him, Werner said.

Davidson was taken to UPMC Hamot, where he was treated and later released, police said.

Officers recovered a handgun in the grass on the northwest corner of West 22nd and Sassafras streets. They recovered another gun from a car that was stopped at West 26th and Sassafras streets, Werner said.

The gun in the car was reported stolen in 2009, he said. A passenger in the car, 31-year-old Jermar Phillips, was taken into custody and waits arraignment today on receiving stolen property and carrying a firearm without a license.

A man is being treated at a hospital under police watch after reportedly shooting himself with a stolen gun on Erie's east side this morning.

The man, identified by police as 44-year-old Brian Kelly. He was found with a gunshot wound to the left biceps when police were called to a parking lot at East 16th and German streets on a report of a shooting at 12:33 a.m.

Officers found a revolver near Kelly, then followed a blood trail to a residence in the 200 block of East 16th Street, Erie police Lt. Kirk Werner said. Police said they learned that Kelly had reportedly tried to remove a trigger lock from the revolver when it fired inside the residence.

The gun was reported stolen from Millcreek Township, Werner said.

Kelly will face charges that include carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property and recklessly endangering another person, Werner said.
